e venue is off Nicolson Street (South Bridge)\, about 10 mins walk from Wa
verley Station. For lunch\, we will be going to the nearby Ciao Roma Itali
 an restaurant (64 South Bridge\, EH1 1LS).\nTopic\nUnless you’ve been li
ving under a rock\, you probably have heard a thing or two about inclusive
language. But do you know what it actually means and how to use it in you
r translation practice? Some people see this trend as disruptive\, unneces
sary and hard to achieve. Alicja Tokarska hopes to prove that this couldn
’t be further from the truth.\n\nAlicja has been interested in the topic
since 2017\, when she began translating on a professional level. In 2020\
, when she launched her full-time career\, she decided to dedicate her pra
ctice to inclusive language. Soon she realised that many clients were not
as opposed to the idea as she had thought\, and even came to her specifica
lly to revise existing translations and make them more inclusive.\n\nIn th
is workshop\, she will explain what inclusive language actually is\, talk
about helpful strategies for different areas (such as gender\, race\, sexu
al orientation and more) and languages\, and will provide you with sources
that can further your knowledge on the subject. We will also explore incl
usive language tips for various text types and specialisations. After the
break\, we will divide into language-specific groups and work on a short t
ranslation. This exercise will be a great opportunity to practise inclusiv
e language in different target languages and discuss any doubts with colle
agues.\nSpeaker\nBorn and raised in Warsaw\, Poland\, Alicja came to Glasg
ow in 2009 and fell in love with Scotland. She’s been translating since
2017 and in 2020\, after completing a traineeship in the European Parliame
nt in Luxembourg\, she established her company Polka Dot Translations –
Inclusive Language Services. She offers translation and subtitling in the
areas of film &amp\; TV\, marketing\, sustainable lifestyle (fashion &amp\
 ; textiles\, beauty\, food &amp\; drink)\, and mental health. Her language
combinations are English &lt\;&gt\; Polish\, as well as Spanish and Frenc
