 ent Word Wiz Kay McBurney will once again pull lots of productivity-boosti
 ng tips and techniques out of her hat to help you get the most out of Micr
 osoft Word in your everyday translation work.\n\nWord Wizardry I will larg
 ely be a repeat of her previous workshop in 2017 for the benefit of those 
 who missed it or would like a refresher. This session will take an in-dept
 h look at the Word environment\, focusing on customising it to enable you 
 to work faster (e.g. Quick Access Toolbar)\, essential shortcut keys and a
 dvanced Find&amp\;Replace options.\n\nThe Word Wizardry II session in the 
 afternoon will go on to look at more advanced formatting techniques such a
 s harnessing the power of styles\, ways of converting pdf files into Word 
 and in particular how to speedily knock them into shape for translation. E
 veryone is welcome to attend either just one or both sessions.\n\n 	Note: 
 Tips and techniques will be demonstrated using Microsoft Word 2010 for Win
 dows but the same or similar features should be available on all Windows &

 \nSpeaker\nKay McBurney has been working as a translator since the dictaph
 one and golfball typewriter era. She started her professional career at Ni
 xdorf Computer in Germany\, where among other things she learned to use a 
 Wang word processing system to post-edit machine-translated user manuals. 
 Following a short stint at an agency in England\, in the early nineties sh
 e turned freelance and returned to Scotland the proud owner of an early De
 ll PC running Word and WordPerfect for DOS. Shortly afterwards she upgrade
 d to Word for Windows and has never looked back.\n\nAlong the way she lear
 ned a lot about using this word processing tool so she was invited to hold
  MS-Word clinics for the ITI Scottish and German networks. She subsequentl
 y also taught on ITI’s inaugural IT courses for translators and served a
 s guest tutor for translation memory tools at Heriot-Watt and Edinburgh Un
 iversity. Over her 5-year tenure as ITI ScotNet Convenor in the noughties\
 , she organized a wide variety of other CPD events for the network too.\n\
 nWhen she’s not sailing off into the wild blue yonder\, Kay puts her Wor
 d wizardry skills to good use when turning stodgy German corporate communi
 cations into stylish English.\nVenue\nThe event will take place in the Qua
 ker Meeting House\, 7 Victoria Terrace\, Edinburgh EH1 2JL. The Meeting Ho
 use is located in Edinburgh’s Old Town\, a 10-minute walk from Waverley
