We Need to Talk About Machine Translation

with Ramon Inglada

A tool to bring about global mutual understanding and peace, or a force for evil designed to make human translators (and interpreters) redundant? Whatever your view of Machine Translation (and even if it lies somewhere between those two extremes), Ramon Inglada is the expert you were waiting for to tell you about the latest advances and provoke a debate on the merits and demerits of working with it. Break-out rooms will allow everyone to voice their opinion.

Forced online by Covid-19, and into an afternoon slot by the central ITI AGM which starts at 10am on the same date, our traditional Autumn Workshop takes a distinctly technological feel. Despite the modernity it still features every Scotnetters’ favourite part of the meeting, however: the Zoom call will open 30 minutes before the presentation is due to start to allow you to turn up with your post-lunch coffee in hand and catch up with friends and colleagues after the summer that never was.
