p\;\nTopic\nIn the third event of our 2022 programme\, we will discuss eth
ics in interpreting practice\, explore the extent and role of codes of eth
ics\, and share different approaches conducive to a more sustainable and e
thical interpreting practice.\nWhile the focus of this workshop is on inte
rpreting\, the issues raised should be of interest to translators and inpu
t from both practising interpreters and translators will be welcome.\nPart
1 of the workshop will cover ethical challenges in interpreting practice
and the extent and limitations of codes of ethics. The speakers will discu
ss ethics in the context of interpreting as a practice and a profession in
different settings. Efforts towards the professionalisation of public ser
vice interpreting are closely linked to and largely dependent on ethical a
pproaches. These often clash with questionable practices driven by financi
al constraints\, obstacles to training and qualifications\, and misconcept
ions and overambitious expectations of the role of interpreters.\nIn Part
2\, participants will be invited to engage in hands-on activities that wil
l lead to a discussion of potential approaches to handling the ethical dil
emmas faced by interpreters before\, during or after interpreting assignme
nts. Some strategies will be put to the test\, and participants will be in
vited to share the strategies they use or would use in the proposed scenar
ios to promote ethical approaches to interpreting and to the interpreting
 profession.\nSpeakers\n\nEloísa Monteoliv\n\nScotNet member Eloísa Monte
